What a fantastic campout! 21 of us (including 15 Scouts) headed out for a weekend full of building, hiking, cooking, and campfire fun. The Scouts split into three patrols and took full ownership of meal planning and cooking—serving up plenty of chili, chicken, tacos, and of course marshmallows over the fire, and a new silver spatula champion was crowned.
The whole troop worked together to build a solid 10-foot signal tower, practicing knots, lashings, and teamwork to keep it stable. Once it was up, the Scouts climbed it and turned it into the perfect spot for games and challenges throughout the day. We also logged a solid 5-mile hike from Neipsic (behind Gideon Welles School) through JB Williams Park, where the Scouts sharpened their skills identifying invasive plant species along the way.
Evenings were a little chilly, giving everyone good practice with cold-weather camping and staying warm in their tents. The weather overall was amazing, and the campfire was a highlight—complete with songs, skits, jokes, scary stories, and a meaningful American flag retirement ceremony. As always, we left the campsite neat and tidy.
Great work, Troop 156—another weekend of learning, leadership, and fun in the outdoors!
