Advancement

Advancement is one of the ways Scouts grow.

Ranks and merit badges give Scouts goals to work toward while helping them develop practical skills, confidence, and leadership. We want Scouts to make progress, but the real goal is helping them become capable, responsible leaders.

To maximize the chances for success, Troop 156 has created a schedule to allow all scouts to earn all Eagle-required merit badges through a combination of troop and summer camp opportunities.

6th and 7th grade will get a chance to work on Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Family Life, and Personal Fitness merit badges over the course of two years.

Older scouts will be given the chance to work on Cooking, Communication, Personal Management, and Citizenship in the World merit badges rotated over two years.

We use summer camp to round out the available badges to allow for

• Swimming

• Camping

• Emergency Preparedness

• Environmental Science

• First Aid

• Lifesaving

• Sustainability

in addition to most of the eagle required merit badges troop 156 and Yawgoog offer dozens of other badges.

In addition to these merit badges, we now also offer Digital Technology, Programming, and Cybersecurity outside normal meeting times.

Rank advancement is also an exciting accomplishment for scouts.  The troop ensures that a portion of most meetings goes toward helping younger scouts rank up, and in doing so, helps older scouts cement the lessons they've learned along the way.
