Car Wash Tickets

Posted by jditomasso on Mar 28 2016 - 10:06pm

Now that the snow has cleared, it's the perfect time to use the Car Wash Tickets for Sparkle Car Wash on Main St.  Books of 5 can be purchased from our Treasurer, Byran Palacio (duckiedal@aol.com), for $45/book ($9/ticket).  Each one is good for a regular wash ($9 value), and counts towards the fundraising obligation (50% of value goes back to the Troop).

Eagle Project Looking for Scout — Kestrel Nest Boxes

Posted by jditomasso on Mar 28 2016 - 10:05pm

American Kestrels, also known as sparrow hawks, are blue jay-sized falcons that eat everything from large insects to small rodents to house sparrows. Kestrels are found throughout the U.S. but their numbers are declining because of inadequate cavity nesting locations and competition from starlings.

The goal of this proposed Eagle Project would be to identify 6-8 potential nest box locations, obtain permission from land owners to erect boxes, fundraise, construct boxes and install them by the end of 2016. Ideally, the Scout would return to the boxes in the early spring of 2017 for starling management and to monitor the boxes by counting eggs, hatchlings and fledglings and, hopefully, to band birds (this portion is preferred but not required).

I’ll be at the March 30 to briefly explain the project and to answer questions. Please let me know if you might be interested: Jim Bancroft, jrbancroft@alumni.purdue.edu or 860-402-4650.

Our Scouts fought the New York traffic, to enjoy a beautiful weekend visiting Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.  The views of the Manhattan skyline was fabulous, as many of us saw the Freedom Tower for the first time!!
